The Ministry of Labour and Co-operatives recently granted approval and registration for the Curepe/St. Joseph Presbyterian Credit Union to officially start operation. This is a welcome initiative which started in 2018 when the Session of the Curepe/St. Joseph Pastoral Region, approved the formation of a steering committee to start the process of the formation of a Credit Union.

At the Curepe/St. Joseph Presbyterian Credit Union, there will be Financial products for Churches and Schools within our Presbyterian system for savings and investment, and short-term and long-term growth. These products will be fashioned to suit the needs of our Churches and Schools. Credit Unions are a definite option and the Curepe/St. Joseph Presbyterian Credit Union should be a consideration.
The Steering Committee comprised members of all 5 churches in the Curepe/St. Joseph Pastoral Region and created the necessary bye-laws and other documentation for same. The approval was delayed by the effects of the pandemic (for 18 months) and finally came through in October 2021.
The Board of Directors 2022/2023 comprises:
The 1st Annual General Meeting of the Credit Union will be held on 15th January 2022. This will be a hybrid meeting with members being accommodated virtually. The Ministry of Labour will oversee this meeting and all necessary legal and health protocols will be observed. The Ministry will also for the next two years be assisting with the accounting and auditing processes of the Credit Union. The Steering Committee, observing that different conditions now dictate due to the pandemic, instituted the development of a Website to recruit members and to facilitate online deposits of membership dues and share contributions and the email address is csjprescu@gmail.com. Our Credit Union may be the very first in our country to start as an almost Virtual Credit Union. There will also be a physical office at Austin Street St. Augustine.
Persons interested in becoming members of this Credit Union can just log in to the website and fill out the Membership Application form. Hard-copy membership application forms will be available at ALL Presbyterian Churches within the coming months in addition to the online option.
